Cheryl Willis Hudson began her career creating textbook design for publishers such as Houghton Mifflin and Macmillan.

Noticing a lack of quality Black-interest books for her own two children, in 1988 she and her husband Wade formed Just Us Books, Inc., a publishing company specializing in children's titles that focus on Black experiences, history and culture. Today she has written more than 24 books and has co-edited, with her husband, several more.

Cheryl joins me today to discuss her newest title, 'Brave.Black.First', a biographical complilation of 50 historical and contemporary Black women who've helped shape the American story. The project is published in collaboration with the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History.
