Marie McKenzie: From victim to advocate. From stuck to limitless.

Marie McKenzie was a successful R.N. still struggling with trauma of childhood sexual abuse. "The memories I wanted to forget were on perpetual rewind and the ones I needed to recall were permanently erased," she explained.

When she discovered the perpetrator - a family member, was known to have molested other young girls and that this issue was rampant in the community but ignored by adults, she was enraged. She did the hard work of inner healing then turned back to help other victims.

Marie is now a certified sexual assault nurse examiner, with specialized training in matters of sexually assault, abuse or incest. She is also a former board member of The Inner Truth Project, a not-for-profit that helps survivors of sexual violence to regain their voices, heal, thrive and survive.

She joins me to discuss her book, 'Things That Keep Me Up At Night,' winner of the 2022 President's Book Award from the Florida Authors and Publishers Assocation and a roadmap of her journey from adversity to triumph.
